Looking for something to do I called up a soror to see what was going …..
She said a BBQ in Norfolk. Which meant road trip for me. 4 hours in the hot sun, along with some traffic in there and that makes for a long drive.
But I finally make it. Have on my “I am hip hop” t shirt (that I got for free at some club…)
The food was good, crowd was a lil younger (then me) but the music was good and a few people were dancing having a good time. Apparently some people ate some of the under cooked chicken that was meant to go on the grill before it was served but no one got sick.
And DJ Point-n-Click (“the only DJ literally on the ones and two’s……..”) was working it on the ones and…….. wait those aren’t turntables….. “What are those CD turntables?”
“…nope, it’s a DM2…” He had some kind of controller and a laptop that he used to mix and scratch mp3’s.
With Notorious B.I.G. at my finger tips he let me use the controller. I started the song off, let it play for a second or two then started it over again (off beat of course) But the “DJ” in me started to come out.
“We’re can I get on of these controllers?”
“I got mine off ebay for 15 bucks”
I made it up in my mind that I was gonna get one and learn to DJ like him.
Unfortunately my brain didn’t confer with my procrastination, so there was a year long conflict until……
