Dying Desire....

The fire that once blazed with in me to mix music between my finger tips has slowly dimmed to a mere spark and reincarnated itself into a blazing desire to create (my own) music.

What does that mean for my plastic turntables and thousands upon thousands of mp3's......?
they are no longer a tool but a source of inspiration and now my tools are my keyboard and bass.......

But don't fret my loyal fans out there (my parents) I will continue to mix it up on the A's and B's every once in a while when the mood strikes cause they'll always be a lil DJ in me. ;o)

Song Selection is Key

If you want a party to go successfully then scratching, mixing, blending are all cool but song selection is key. It sets the mood for the whole party or event. Thats why dudes get in fights at the club just as the latest lil john song is being blasted over the speakers. And a party can go from great to extremely awkward if you start playing "amazing grace" by the Brooklyn tabernacle choir right after you finish playing "ms. new booty" by bubba sparx.

This was a valuable lesson I learned while "DJ'ing" (or should I say making full use of the 'shuffle' feature on iTunes) for a 6 hour bbq. Song selection (and strategically placed business cards) is key.

DJ Tip for the Day: When in doubt always go back to the classics.........

Back to the beginning......

2 years ago I was looking for something to do and decided to take a road trip to the tidewater area to attend a bbq. While I was I met the DJ and the rest as "they" say 'is history......'

This year I attended that same bbq to DJ it!!!

What is normally a 3 hour trip turned into a 7 hour trip because of traffic.
The bbq that was supposed to start at 4pm but started at 7 cause of 'cp time'
and lets just say ..... keeping people on the dance floor isn't my forte'

I decided to play 'clap back' by Ja Rule and got boo'ed...... but it was all in fun. and at one point I accidently loaded another song on to my virtual deck while another song was already playing causing there to be a moment of silence (and not for prayer purposes)

So after a good 15 minutes of mixing/embaraassing myself I sat my narrow behind down and stayed away from the DJ equipment and just took notes.

Moral of the story is: Wait till everyone's alcohol kicks in before I start DJ'ing

On a side note: I got a new laptop that is faster, and more robust then the one I have now. So we'll see how that works out.

Another Notch

Celebrating a 30th birthday would not be complete with out music and dancing with good friends. That's where my services come in. With a carefully crafted playlist (best use of five minutes of my life that I'll never get back) and over a year of dilligence and skills (and/or boredom and money) The night was a sucess!!! In more ways then one!

Business cards strategically placed in front of the laptop for easy acess.
Received much appreciated support and encouragement from my mentor, The DM2 Masta himself DJ Point n Click "the only DJ literally on the one's and two's"
And I'd also like to "shout out" the company who makes technics for crafting such lovely (and heavy) speakers.

Next stop on the road to DJ'dom Norfolk, Va!

What do you mean?!?!?!

What do you mean you don't know who I am?????? I'm only the best DJ in your apartment complex......

The (female) DM2 Master ..... ????

Possibly the only female DM2 Mixman user.
Regardless I'm getting better slowly but surely. Got a party coming up in August. Getting the playlist together as "we speak" (or as I 'blog') 90,000 songs to chose from. 1+ years of skill to work with. A distracting case of A.D.D. to overcome. Whats the next step for me? who know's..... Whatever it is I hope its a good one. I have a lot more ground to explore, discover, and stick my proverbial flag into.
